How to Back Up and Restore WordPress with SiteSuraksha

By Fathima Nourin TM • •

A backup is useless if you cannot restore it when an emergency happens. Many plugins store backups on the same server as the website. If the server fails, the backup disappears too.

SiteSuraksha automates full backups and stores them on sovereign, off-site storage. You can restore your entire website with a single click.

What a Complete WordPress Backup Contains

A complete WordPress backup must include two separate data stores:

  1. The Database: Contains posts, customer orders, user accounts, and plugin options.
  2. The File System: Contains wp-config.php, active themes, installed plugins, and the wp-content/uploads directory.

If you omit the uploads directory or the database, you cannot fully restore your site.

Setting Up Backups in SiteSuraksha

Step 1: Connect Your Storage Target

SiteSuraksha stores your archives in encrypted, geographically isolated cloud buckets. Indian businesses can select regional Indian data centres to comply with DPDP Act data localisation guidelines.

Step 2: Configure Backup Schedules

Select your backup frequency based on your transaction volume:

  • Daily Backups: Ideal for corporate websites and blogs.
  • Hourly Real-Time Backups: Essential for active WooCommerce stores and membership sites.

Step 3: Run an Initial Snapshot

Open your SiteSuraksha dashboard, go to Backups, and select Create Snapshot. SiteSuraksha streams the database dump and file archive without locking database tables.

How to Restore Your Website

When an update breaks your site, restore previous state quickly:

  1. Open Backups in the SiteSuraksha console.
  2. Select the backup point from the timeline.
  3. Click Restore Now.
  4. SiteSuraksha replaces corrupted files, imports the database, and clears object caches automatically.
  5. The system performs an HTTP health check to confirm the site renders properly.
