How to Revert Back to a Previous Version of WordPress

Updating your website is an important part of keeping it secure and running smoothly. But sometimes, the update process can go awry and you might find yourself wanting to revert back to a previous version of WordPress. Fortunately, this is relatively easy to do. Let’s take a look at how you can revert back to an earlier version of WordPress quickly and safely.

Backing up Your Website Before You Update

Before you make any changes to your website, it’s important that you have a backup so that nothing is lost in the event of an unforeseen issue. This step should be taken before each update no matter which method you choose for updating your site. If something does go wrong, it will be much easier to restore a fully functional version of your website with minimal downtime if you have a backup that’s ready to go.

Creating a Database Backup

The next step is creating a database backup. You can easily do this by using phpMyAdmin which can usually be accessed through your hosting control panel or cPanel. Once in the phpMyAdmin dashboard, simply select the database associated with your WordPress installation and click “Export” from the menu on the left side of the screen. You will then be prompted to either save or open the file – make sure you save it somewhere safe! This file contains all of your website’s content including posts, pages, comments, galleries and more so make sure not to lose it!

Reverting Back To A Previous Version Of WordPress

Now that we have our backups ready, we can start reverting back to our previous version of WordPress. The first step is downloading the older version we want from WordPress.org. Once downloaded, upload all files inside the folder (not just the folder itself) via FTP or File Manager in cPanel – whichever works best for you – overwriting any existing files already present on server but making sure not to delete any additional folders that may contain plugins or themes installed after updating originally.

Once uploaded successfully, head over back into phpMyAdmin again and select “Import” from left-hand menu this time around instead; choose file previously exported as our database backup and click “Go” button once selected – this should import our previous site data into new installation properly without having us recreate everything from scratch manually!

Conclusion

Reverting back to an earlier version of WordPress doesn’t have to be difficult if done correctly! By following these steps, you can ensure that your website stays safe while also reverting back so that everything runs properly once again without too much hassle involved! Just remember; always create backups before making any changes – no matter how small – as they could potentially save you valuable time down line should something go wrong during update process itself! Good luck!
